Can I drop my bags before check-in in Hongdae?
Updated September 2026 · Written by Gunwoo Lee, host of Da-woo House since 2018
Yes. Da-woo House stores your bags free of charge from the morning of your check-in day, and you can collect them the moment your room opens at 3 PM. What you should picture is not a staffed left-luggage counter. It is a corridor inside the building, behind a door with a keypad code, watched by motion-detect CCTV.
The problem this solves is a four-hour hole in the day. Check-out is 11 AM and check-in is 3 PM, so anyone landing on an early flight, or leaving on a late one, has half a day in Hongdae with a suitcase attached to them. Dropping the bag first turns that dead half-day into a usable one.
It is also the single most common thing guests write in about. Across 1,062 inbound guest messages in the twelve months to September 2026, 137 mentioned luggage, and 89 of those were asking where to put it.
Before check-in
Message us on the morning of your arrival and say roughly when you expect to turn up. The reply carries the door code and tells you where to leave the bags. There is no form, no deposit and no per-bag fee. Da-woo House is a five to seven minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 6, so the detour from the subway costs about fifteen minutes door to door.
Two warnings worth reading before you plan around it. Dropping bags early is not the same as early check-in: rooms are not released before 3 PM, because the cleaning round runs in the gap between check-out and check-in. And Da-woo House has no elevator, so a large suitcase means stairs.
Because there is no front desk, nobody signs for your bag and nobody hands you a ticket. That is the trade-off of a self check-in guesthouse. You get access at any hour without waiting for staff, and in exchange the storage is a shared corridor rather than a counter. Passports, laptops and cash should stay with you.
After check-out
The same corridor works in the other direction. Vacate the room by 11 AM, leave the bags, and go and spend the day. Most guests collect in the late afternoon on the way to the airport, and the AREX All-Stop platform at Hongik University Station puts Incheon about 50 to 60 minutes away, so a 4 PM pickup still makes a 7 PM airport arrival comfortable.
Tell us your collection time when you drop the bags off. Same-day collection is the assumption. If you need bags held overnight, or across a gap between two separate bookings, ask first rather than assuming, because the space is shared with everyone checking in and out that day.
If you would rather use a locker
Some days do not bring you back past the guesthouse. Hongik University Station has commercial self-service storage for exactly that case. The Seoul Tourism Organization lists a 24-hour unmanned locker facility about 145 metres from Exit 7, charging 1,000 won per hour, with lockers large enough to swallow several 20-inch suitcases. It is the sensible choice on a day that ends at Seoul Station or the airport rather than in Hongdae.
One point of confusion worth clearing up while you are looking at maps: a separately owned business called Dawoo House 2 trades under a similar name at Sinchon-ro 2-an-gil in Mapo-gu. It is a different property with different owners, and its services are not ours.

| Guesthouse corridor, after check-out | Free | From 11 AM until you collect, same day | A late flight after an 11 AM check-out |

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to book luggage storage in advance?
- No. Message us on the day and we will send the door code. Telling us your rough arrival time helps us plan the space, but there is no reservation, no queue and no fee.
- Can I store bags the day before my stay, or between two bookings?
- Ask first. Storage on your own check-in or check-out day is standard and automatic. Anything longer depends on how full the corridor is that day, so it is a question rather than a given.
- Is the storage area secure?
- The door uses a keypad code and the corridor is covered by motion-detect CCTV. It is not an individually locked locker, so keep your passport, laptop and cash with you rather than in a stored bag.
